Nothing beats going to see one of your favorite bands or musician live in person, but there’s also something extra special listening to your favorite songs on a vinyl record. About three weeks ago, a local record shop, Vinny’s Vinyl, opened up right down the road from where I live in Newport News, VA.

The majority of their records were classic rock records, ranging from Led Zeppelin to Pink Floyd (although I did see a Miley Cyrus album).

I recently got to visit Los Angeles for the first time for work, and got to stop in one of the famous record stores there: Amoeba Records. The moment I walked in I was hooked, I bought three records on the spot (Red Hot Chili Peppers, David Bowie, and Incubus).

Of course, I had to support the local record shop here as well:

Jimi Hendrix
Jim Croce

A nice touch this local shop had was a record player where you could sample a record before purchasing one of them.

The owner did mention they will start hosting events soon to promote their business. If you’re ever in Newport News, be sure to check them out!

By the way, if you ever decide to purchase a record player, don’t be like me and forget to purchase speakers for the record player as well!
